About Octavia Spriggs

Hello! I'm an artist and designer living in West Virginia. I enjoy painting botanicals and the beautiful landscapes of WV and beyond.

I grew up in a wooded setting, spending lots of time admiring the West Fork River in my backyard. I found a calm and peacefulness in watching the seasons change around it.

In art history class in college, I learned about the concept of "sublime," the ability of artwork to evoke feelings of awe or grandeur, often through depictions of powerful natural forces or overwhelming scenes. This concept, used by the Hudson River School of painters in the 19th century, resonated deeply.

Painting landscapes and botanicals allows me to soak in the awe of nature's beauty. I want to study it, bring it to life on paper, and share that feeling with others.

Currently, my medium of choice is watercolor on paper.

When I'm not painting or designing, I enjoy being active outdoors, traveling, and baking with my husband and son.
