Notes from the Studio: July 2026

Christmas in July 

I'm currently painting six different Holiday/Winter designs—all have a subtle West Virginia theme. These could represent the state but are perfect for any Winter or nature lover. My plan is to turn each painting into a 5"x7" card that will be sold both individually and as a set. I'm looking forward to turning some of these into gift tag sets as well.

Paintings from this Holiday/Winter series will include: 

• A pair of Cardinals on a snowy branch
• Spruce Cones (inspired from North Fork Mountain)
• Mountain Ash berries (inspired from Dolly Sods)
• Snow-covered tree with Cardinal
  (inspired by a tree seen in Dolly Sods)
• Snow-covered Panoramic Mountains (inspired by Bald Knob)
• Snowy Trail (inspired by the trail at the top of Canaan Valley)

The idea for these cards has been on my to-do list for years so I'm excited to bring these to life. After getting these finished up, I'll be working on a few Christmas ornament designs so I can have those ready for November.

New River Gorge Series Painting Progress

I finished the Bridge Buttress Trail painting!

I had a small hiccup with some masking fluid on top of the bridge where I had to order a rubber-cement removal square to get it off. I have never had any issues removing this masking fluid before, so I’m wondering if the fluid adhered to the pigment beneath.

I have four more to come in this series, which will happen as soon as I can get back to them this year. I think I'm going to release the originals and prints of the first two paintings for purchase in September. Note cards and stickers will follow when the full series is complete.

Print of the Month: View of Harpers Ferry, WV

We took a day trip to Harpers Ferry, WV back in 2017 and hiked up the Maryland Heights trail. At the end, we stepped out to this beautiful overlook of the town of Harpers Ferry. 

I’d like to go back and spend some more time in the area and do a potential series around some of the historical structures/landmarks.

The Harpers Ferry, WV print will be 20% off through August 30.

In the Shop

Herb original paintings and individual prints are now available in the shop! I painted the originals at the 8"x10" size so they reproduced beautifully.
